2 Chainz Considering Running For Mayor Of College Park, GA

WRITTEN BY

The hip-hop musician says he wants to run for mayor of his hometown of College Park, but he apparently does not live in the Atlanta suburb—which could pose a problem.

Hip-hop artist 2 Chainz (born Tauheed Epps) has appeared on platinum records, collaborated with Kanye West and is perhaps the only rapper ingenious enough to rhyme “booty” with “booty.” So obviously the next step for him is electoral politics.
In two separate interviews published this week, 2 Chainz touched on his desire to run for mayor of his hometown, the Atlanta suburb of College Park, Georgia.
“I’m supposed to be running for mayor in College Park,” he told XXL magazine. “I got everybody wishing. I’m really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I’m just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications.”
“I am looking forward to running at the end of this year or next year,” the rapper confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  There is only one obstacle. The rapper doesn’t live in College Park, a town of 14,000.
According to voter registration records accessed by The Daily Beast, 2 Chainz currently appears to be registered to vote in the nearby town of Palmetto, and College Park’s incumbent mayor, Jack Longino, doesn’t think he meets the necessary requirements to run for office, telling The Daily Beast, “I truly and sincerely do not believe that he lives in College Park.”
Longino, a 20-year incumbent, isn’t concerned about the potential political threat. He said if 2 Chainz “actually lives in College Park and wants to run and signs up, we’ll let the people decide.” The incumbent mayor told The Daily Beast that, “I will continue to stand on my record and what I’ve accomplished in College Park” and bragged that Google announced today that his town would be the latest city to get Google Fiber.
The mayor also told The Daily Beast that he hadn’t heard of 2 Chainz until the rapper floated his potential candidacy. “I didn’t know who he was, but I’m not a big rapper,” Longino said.  “I’m a country-western guy. I don’t listen to the rap.”
He told The Huffington Post before the 2012 election that he thought he probably could beat Mitt Romney in a presidential race: “He’s just rich as shit, that’s all.”
2 Chainz recently gained some degree of political credibility after he owned the miserably bad HLN host Nancy Grace during a televised debate on marijuana legalization.  Political consultants from both parties saw him having potential as a candidate. Lis Smith, a Democratic consultant, told The Daily Beast “for starters, he's clearly a talented communicator.” However, she thought his name might cause some confusion for voters, saying “on day one he needs to clarify why he is just 2 Chainz and not 3 [Chainz].”
Republican consultant Rick Wilson took a more nuanced view and pointed out that some of the things 2 Chainz has said about entrepreneurship in recent interviews have been “fantastic.” In fact, Wilson said 2 Chainz “is a more libertarian-inflected African-American than anyone else I can think of” and expressed the hope that this could even be the point “where rap culture leaves the dependency culture.”
The Republican consultant, who was ready to back any political candidate who worked with Rick Ross, did suggest that 2 Chainz shouldn’t go by his previous stage name of “Tity Boi” which he changed only in 2011.
To the extent 2 Chainz has outlined his political views, they seem to fall roughly on the American center-left (although deeply infused with libertarianism). The 37-year-old recording artist is for pot legalization, rolling back the war on drugs, reducing budget deficits, and registering ex-felons to vote.
He has emphasized his pragmatic approach to politics, though. “I just try to do right whether it’s a Republican or a Democrat,” 2 Chainz said in an interview with The Huffington Post in 2013. “But I definitely voted for Obama. He’s just dealing with a lot of issues, from that Boston shit to overseas issues with North Korea and everything. Bro’s got a lot on his plate, so you can’t do anything but support him.”
Although 2 Chainz’s management did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Beast, it seems the hip-hop artist does not lack for confidence in his electoral appeal. He told The Huffington Post before the 2012 election that he thought heprobably could beat Mitt Romney in a presidential race. “He’s just rich as shit, that’s all,” he added.

Bobby Shmurda Has Gun Charge Dismissed

Bobby Shmurda Has Gun Charge Dismissed

by Jay Balfour

The 20-year old rapper still faces charges brought against him and 14 other GS9 members.

The Brooklyn District Attorney's office has announced that a gun case involving Bobby Shmurda will be dismissed in the coming weeks, according to Revolt.
Shmurda remains incarcerated at Rikers Island in New York after being arrested last month following an investigation by the NYPD and special Narcotics Gang Unit. The Brooklyn case set to be dismissed by the Brooklyn D.A. alleged that Shmurda, whose given name is Ackquille Pollard, fired a gun at a crowd of people near a barber shop.
Shmurda still faces the charges levied against him and his fellow GS9 members which include gun possession, murder, and conspiracy. The 20-year old rapper is currently being held on $2 million bail.
The rapper's lawyer, Howard Greenberg, also told Revolt that Shmurda is set for his upcoming trial date later this month.
“Brooklyn is done and now it’s on to Manhattan, where we need to teach these adversaries a lesson,” he said.
Greenberg also denied rumors that Shmurda was recently released on bail and separately that he had been critically injured in a jail brawl.
“Bullshit,” Greenberg said. “Saw him yesterday (January 20) in court. He looked fantastic.”
In a separate statement, Greenberg recently told XXL about upcoming plans for Shmurda's defense.
“The intermediate plan is if there is a superseding indictment on the 29th is to enter a plea of not guilty," he said. "The long term plan is to kick some ass and take no prisoners."

Lil Wayne Will Reportedly Sue Birdman For $8 Million

Lil Wayne Will Reportedly Sue Birdman For $8 Million
by HENRY MANSELL
Weezy will ask a judge to free him from Cash Money Records and Birdman’s control, TMZ reports.
A day after it was reported that Birdman was frustrated with Lil Wayne, following the choice words used by the New Orleans rapper on the opening track of his Sorry For The Wait 2 mixtape, new reports are stating that Lil Wayne is claiming Birdman owes him $8 million as an advance for his last album.
It’s unclear which album Lil Wayne is referring to, however according to new reports by TMZ, settlement talks between the two rappers have broken down and Lil Wayne is now preparing to sue Birdman Sr.
“The 2 titans tried coming to terms this week but it wasn't meant to be,” the TMZ article says. “Now Wayne will ask a judge to declare him free of Cash Money and Birdman's control. Wayne says Birdman has violated their contract by withholding the release of his new album.”
The report also adds that “Wayne will keep recording but he will release his works outside of the Cash Money umbrella.”
This past Thursday (January 22) it was reported by TMZ that Birdman was angry with Lil Wayne for the string of references made on Sorry For The Wait 2’s opening track, a remix of O.T. Genasis’ "CoCo."
“Our sources say Birdman is angry on 2 fronts … that Wayne is trying to bail on a binding contract and even more personal, he's putting their relationship on blast,” TMZ sources say.

Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin Going To January Online Auction

Even after a reported (by RZA) $5 million offer, the Wu-Tang Clan wants to see if their guarded, completed album, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin can draw more interest. Dazed Digital reports that the Clansmen will take the single-copy LP, recorded in Marrakesh, Morocco, produced by Cilvaringz, will appear on the online auction platform Paddle8 later this month.

OnceUponATimeInShaolin
Paddle8’s reputation has been reportedly built in digital art sales. The company welcomes this groundbreaking opportunity to sell a one-of-a-kind album with vocals by RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Method Man, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Ghostface Killah, as well as potentially Cappadonna.
“We are honored that the Wu-Tang Clan has selected Paddle8 as the partner for the extraordinary sale of their one-of-a-kind album,” Paddle8 co-founder Alexander Gilkes explained to The New York Observer.
Paddle8 is said to be verifying bidders to avoid false and non-paying bids on the album, which is touted to possibly be the final works of the legendary New York City collective, which also includes late member, Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In May of last year, an early snippet confirmed that a guest vocalist on Once Upon A Time In Shaolin is none other than veteran Pop star and acclaimed actress Cher.
At this time, Paddle8’s website has not announced the auction terms or date.
Last month, Wu-Tang Clan released their sixth studio album, A Better Tomorrow, their first since 2007, and their first release as a unit with Warner Bros. Records.

David Banner: "They Let The Oppressor Teach Our Children"

The rapper and actor speaks about the obligation to teach younger generations.
David Banner relayed a message to parents during a Christmas Eve radio interview with The Russ Parr Morning Show.
“Our kids are a reflection of what we did or did not teach them,” David Banner says in the interview. “I think in a lot of cases, our parents chased the American Dream so hard that they ran off and left our kids. They left the kids in front of the television. They ran off and let the oppressor teach our children. ”
The Mississippi rapper mentioned the police-related death of New York City resident Eric Garner as an example of society not doing enough to protect the youth.
“Even what happened to Eric Garner, bruh,” Banner says. “You don’t see it on the camera is how many Black people were standing around allowing that happen. If we want our children to change, we have to go them a good example. How can we expect these rappers to change they music if I’m not?”
Banner dropped his “Evil Knevil” single in October.
“They gave us Obama, right?” Banner raps on the song. “Like that was going to stop the fight. ”
The song came about when Banner was prompted by young Internet commenters.
“What happened when was a kid on the Internet said, ‘David Banner, we saw on all the stuff you did for the world cup and stuff, but we need you,'" Banner says in the interview. “The elders in Rap went off and did movies and tours and paintings, but we left the kids with no elders. So I'm like, ‘Bruh, I gotta come back,’ especially because I can afford to say what I want to say.”
David Banner discussed his dedication to the craft of acting.
“I’ve been in actin school for over 10 years.,” Banner says. “People don’t know this. I started flying from Atlanta to LA every week to go to acting school. “
His upcoming The God Box projects sheds light on social issues.

Rikers Island Rep Says Bobby Shmurda Still In Custody, Contrary To Reports

A misleading Instagram video stirred up rumors that the rapper had been released.

Bobby Shmurda is still in prison, according to a Rikers Island representative.
The rapper (born Ackquille Jean Pollard), is currently being held in the NYC jail's West Facility, which contains the department's Contagious Disease Unit (CDU).
Despite multiple rumors alleging that the Brooklyn-bred rapper had been released, law enforcement sources tell HipHopDX that Pollard remains in Rikers' West Facility in East Elmhurt, New York.
According to the source, Pollard was admitted into the West Facility December 19, two days after reports say he was apprehended by police at Quad Studios in midtown Manhattan.
Yesterday (December 5), an Instagram video shared by aspiring singer Yung Relle captured the "Hot Boy" rapper clutching his gold chain, saying "I'm back baby."
The caption also claimed that Shmurda had been released. "My Bro Is Back," he wrote, along with the hashtags  "#DontTellNobody, #bobbyshmurda and #Yungrelle."
Pollard was initially indicted on charges including reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia.
The bail for Pollard was set at $2 million. If convicted, he will face up to 25 years in prison.
Pollard's attorney, Howard Greenberg, could not be reached for comment.
