Prince's Estate Is Undetermined And Check Out The List Of Ppl With Their Hands Out

undefined
The future of the late Prince's estimated $250 million estate is still undetermined – but interested parties met in Minnesota Monday morning for the latest hearing in the matter.
Last week, Carver County District Judge Kevin Eide press would be allowed to cover the hearing, where arguments regarding genetic testing protocols were expected to be heard; the judge said in an order that he did not expect to hear arguments regarding the claims of potential heirs.
Prince was 57 when he died at his Paisley Park compound in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21. Six weeks after his death, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office released a statement announcing the music icon died of an opioid overdose, with the death being ruled an accident after "the decedent self-administered fentanyl," a highly addictive painkiller.
In May, a source close to the estate situation told PEOPLE it likely won't be settled for months – or years – because parties can submit and object to claims up until Sept. 12.
"At this point, we're looking at something that's probably going to last through the year, at least. It just depends on if everyone agrees with everyone's claims. It could be done very quickly," said the source. "It's just a lot of speculation at this point. Eventually all things will come to appear clear, but it is a slow process: That's the bottom line."
After it was learned that Prince left behind no will, Minnesota-based financial institution and Prince's bank, Bremer Trust, was appointed the special administrator of the estate.
Below is a comprehensive list of parties – from his sister and half-siblings to alleged long-lost heirs and companies he reportedly owed money – who have filed court documents to cash in on Prince's millions.
Tyka Nelson
Prince's only full sibling, Tyka Nelson, was the first to file court documents on April 26, submitting a petition for formal appointment of special administrator five days after her brother's death.
"I am an interested person as defined by Minnesota law because I am the Decedent's heir," Nelson wrote, including an attached exhibit of interested persons she names as heirs: herself, half-brother John Nelson, half-sister Norrine Nelson, half-sister Sharon Nelson, half-brother Alfred Jackson, half-brother Omar [sic] Baker and deceased sister Lorna Nelson (whom she wrote had "no children").
Sharon Nelson
Born in 1940, Sharon is the oldest half-sister from the first marriage of Prince's father. Like her famous sibling, Sharon is also a musician, and in 2009 she released an album entitled 57th Street Sound that included collaborations with her father and sister Lorna, who died in 2006. She is listed in court documents as an "interested party" in Prince's holdings.
Norrine Nelson
As one of five half-siblings listed on initial court documents about the case, Norrine has a strong claim on the singer's estate. Little information is available about Prince's elder half-sister, born in 1942 to Prince's father and his first wife, and their relationship in later years remains unclear.
John R. Nelson
John R. Nelson is Prince's oldest half-brother, born in 1944 to Prince's father and his first wife. Not much is known publicly of his life, although he is listed as a resident of Kansas City, Missouri.
Alfred Jackson
Prince's mother gave birth to his older half-brother, Alfred, during an earlier relationship. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and spent many years living in a Minneapolis-area Veteran's Association hospital. His status as a beneficiary was hampered by a report from an unnamed individual stating that he had gone missing and was not psychologically well. Both of these allegations proved false. Interestingly, he had been seen several days before the report was filed at a meeting concerning Prince's estate, during which Tyka Nelson reportedly stormed out. This has led some to speculate that one or more of the siblings filed the report in an effort to have Alfred declared mentally incompetent.

Omarr Baker
© Provided by TIME Inc. undefined
Omarr Baker is Prince's younger half -brother, the son of his mother and stepfather. The nature of his relationship with Prince in recent years is unknown, although his home in a Minneapolis suburb was reportedly owned by the superstar.
Brianna Nelson
Brianna Nelson claims to be the daughter of the late Duane Nelson Sr. – identified in the affidavit as Prince's half brother – which would make her the artist's half-niece. Following her father's death in 2011, Brianna believes she is entitled to his share of Prince's estate. However, Duane was not named in the original probate case filed by Tyka Nelson. "It could have just been an oversight. I'm not reading nefarious intent into it," Brianna's lawyer told the New York Daily News. Tyka did issue a statement when Duane, who at one point served as Prince's head of security, died.
Victoria Nelson
The late Duane Nelson Sr. had only one grandchild, born to his son, Duane Jr. The younger Duane died in 2005, leaving behind a 1-year-old daughter, Victoria. Her mother, Jeannie Halloran, has filed suit claiming that Victoria is Prince's half-grandniece and entitled to one-half a share (or 1/14th) of the estate.
Darcell Gresham Johnston
Johnson came forward in early May claiming to be Prince's long-lost half sister, born from the same mother but a different father. Court documents list her as an "interested party" in the holdings of the late singer, and consents to the "appointment of Bremer Trust, National Association as Special Administrator for the Estate." Prince's other siblings learned of her existence just days before the claim was filed.
Carlin Q. Williams
Currently in prison for charges stemming from gun possession, Williams alleges that he is Prince's illegitimate son. His mother, Marsha J. Henson, filed an affidavit claiming that she met Prince in the lobby of a Kansas City, Missouri, hotel in 1976. According to her story, they had unprotected sex later that evening, and she became pregnant with Carlin. TMZ reports that DNA test results concluded that there is no chance that he is related to the music legend. It's uncertain whether legal proceedings will continue in light of this new information.
Norman Yates Carthens
Prince has no known biological children, but Norman Yates Carthens claims that he was adopted by the musician as his only son. He is vague on the details of when and why this adoption took place, but says he can provide concrete proof once he is released from Barnwell County Jail in South Carolina. While Prince's estate maintains that the artist died without a will, Norman insists one exists because he's listed as an heir and due to inherit $7 million. He filed a Demand for Notice against the estate on June 6.
Regina L. Sorenson
Claiming to be a half sibling and "business partner" of the late musician, Regina Sorenson alleges that Prince's estate owes her an "undetermined amount." In an affidavit filed on June 3, she says she lived with the Nelson family until both she and Prince were removed from the household by Child Protective Services after "severe abuse" at the hands of their older siblings. Prince never publicly spoke about these incidents, if they ever took place. Regina maintains there is a trust in her name, and wishes to be included in the DNA testing for potential heirs.
Confusingly, though she professes to share the same paternity as Prince, she lists their biological father as "Paul Lenard Newman of Connecticut." The Oscar-winning actor Paul Leonard Newman did indeed hail from Connecticut, and she speaks of traveling with him "across [the] country from stage to stage and movie set to movie set from birth." In addition to an apparent career as a commercial actress, model, and "blind ballet dancer," she also claims to have been fostered by celebrities including Shirley Jones, Michael Landon, Ryan O'Neal, and various members of the Disney family.
Kimberly Felecia Potts
Kimberly Felecia Potts of Tallassee, Alabama, says she is due $500,000 of the icon's estate, alleging she is responsible for Prince's 2004 album Musicology. "I am the creator of the Musicology. I created Musicology in the NPG Music Club in 2004. Prince invited me to Paisley Park in Nov. 2015 to reopen the NPG MC, and to reward me for Musicology," Kimberly claims in her statement, alleging her claim is secured by "NPG MC records," "conversations" and "Twitter Account chats."
R. Kerr
Atlanta resident, R. Kerr, filed a statement of claim in Minnesota's Carver County District Court, alleging Prince owes her $46,582.29 for "recording cost, post production, equipment rental."
General Dr. Karolina R. Kennedy Ferrara (A.K.A. Maleika S. Mosley)
An Atalanta resident claiming to be a "Harvard-educated Attorney/Judge and Surgeon/Biomedical Researcher" filed a claim on May 6th seeking over $750 million from Prince's estate. Calling herself many names, but "currently existing as Maleika S. Mosley," the woman submitted a detailed three page letter in which she outlined her "now 40 years long post-Civil Rights Movement Sociopolitical Hostage Crisis," for which she's been seeking compensation from Prince since the mid-1980s.
Rodney Herachio Dixon
A resident of Murrieta, California, Rodney Dixon filed a bold claim alleging that he had a verbal agreement with Prince that gave him complete ownership of the artist's musical catalog and vast vault of unreleased recordings. He filed similar motions in the mid-1990s under the names Aeric Alexander Mercury and Rameses America Mercury, which he says were ignored by Prince's representatives. In the current claim, Rodney asserts himself as the "sole and exclusive owner of all intellectual properties after the death of Prince Rogers Nelson" and maintains that he is owed $1 billion. Attorneys for the singer's estate dismissed the motion as "frivolous."
Catherine Bellante
As treasurer of Eighth Day Sound System, Inc. – a Highland Heights, Ohio, music business – Bellante claims the estate owes her $256,010.89 for services provided from Nov. 13, 2014 to May 16, 2015.
"Our company provided audio services for rehearsals, shows and events for Prince at Paisley Park, as well as other venues requested by production," Bellante asserts in her statement. "Invoices were addressed to NPG Music Publishing, which was one of Prince's touring production companies."
Roskco A. Motes
Dr. Roskco A. Motes wrote, "I have a financial or property interest in the Estae of the Decedent, for the following reason," in a June 10 demand for notice document. "I am the half-brother of Prince Rogers Nelson."
Venita Giselle Jackson Leverette
Leverette submitted an affidavit of heirship, claiming she is a half-sister of Prince because: "Alfred B. Jackson Senior is my father ... According to the marriage certificate filed in Jackson County, Missouri on Feb. 19, 1953, my father was married to Mattie Shaw ("Mattie"), Decedent's mother."
Leverette goes on to say, "Alfred, Sr. is also the father of Decedent, making myself the half-sister of Decedent."(Prince's biological father is jazz musician John L. Nelson.)
Leverette says she is the sister of Prince's half-brother, Alfred, Jr., and alleges, "I was told by my brother, Alfred Jr., that Mattie confided in him that our father, Alfred, Sr., may also be Decedent's father."
April Lashaun Seward, Martha Samuels, James Austin Womack, Priscilla Williams, Lorraine M. Huddlestom, Dana Samuels Nettles, Jonette M. Carter and Michael Samuels
The aforementioned people each filed demand for notice papers or heirship affidavits on June 14, each alleging: "I have an interest in this matter based on my being a descendant of Virginia Nelson (Thompson) the sibling of the decedent's great-grandfather, Clarence Nelson."
All parties listed are from across the country (from Southfield, Michigan, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana), and each signed the documents, "Under penalties for perjury, I declare that I have read this document and I know or believe its representations are true and complete."
Nicole Patricia White
Brooklyn resident White filed a statement of claim on June 14, asserting she's indebted a "share" of Prince's estate because a DNA test will prove a familial relationship.
"I would like to be included in the official DNA testing," she wrote in her statement. "I will be obtaining legal counsel and representation."
Michael John Darling
Now a Rush City, Minnesota, resident, Darling called himself a "potential heir" to Prince's estate – and asked the court add another judge, former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, to handle the estate – in his June 21 correspondence.
"Since I have not seen the last Will and Testament, I might be one of the named HEIRS to the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson in his Last Will and Testament," Darling wrote.
As a Prince's Tyka Nelson and a judge confirmed in April, Prince did not have a will at the time of his death, so Darling would not be listed as an heir on any such document.

The best VR headsets: The virtual reality race is on

The best VR headsets
By @paullamkin
Virtual reality is here – 2016 is the year when the likes of Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and the HTC Vive take the medium mainstream. And it's already started.
For the uninitiated, VR is an immersive experience in which your head movements are tracked in a three-dimensional world, making it ideally suited to games and even movies.
Explained: How does VR actually work?
While VR was a non-starter back in the 90s, developers are now creating mind-blowing experiences that look set to revolutionise gaming and entertainment.
But what are the best VR headsets and which one should you choose? We've put together the definitive selection of the most gob-smackingly awesome devices just waiting to be strapped to your bonce.
Read on for the full list…

HTC Vive

The HTC Vive, is the Steam VR headset made in collaboration with Valve, the makers of legendary gaming series Half Life, and it's due to hit shops in April.
The HTC Vive plugs into PCs and work with Valve's mammoth gaming ecosystem. It packs in 70 sensors to offer 360 degree head-tracking as well as a 90Hz refresh rate; the stat that's key to keeping down latency, which is the technical term for the effect that causes motion sickness. Thankfully, that wasn't an issue in our review time.

However, the key to the HTC Vive's success is the Lighthouse room tracking that enables you to move around with the headset on. It means mounting some sensors in your home, but the effect is next level. Check out our HTC Vive review to see how.
Out now, $799, htcvr.com

Oculus Rift

Best VR headsets
Oculus Rift is the headset that started the current hysteria. Developed by Palmer Luckey, funded via Kickstarter and snapped up by Facebook for a cool $2 billion, the Rift plugs into your computer's DVI and USB ports and tracks your head movements to provide 3D imagery on its stereo screens.
The consumer edition Rift uses a 2160 x 1200 resolution, working at 233 million pixels per second, with a 90Hz refresh rate. It's high tech stuff, which matches the HTC Vive for refresh rate, but lags behind PlayStation VR. However, given its access to the power of latest PCs, it will be pushing a lot more pixels than Sony's headset.

Oculus Rift is ready for shipping, but the Oculus Touch controllers have been delayed until later in the year, but you will get an Xbox One control pad in the box. Check out our early Oculus Rift review for more details.
Out now, $599, oculus.com

Sony PlayStation VR

At last we have a launch date for the PlayStation VR headset: October 2016.
A new version was announced at GDC 2015 and gone is the 5-inch LCD display of the original prototype; in its place a 5.7-inch OLED one which enables low persistence, which should mean less motion blur. The display's refresh rate has also been ramped up to 120Hz, making 120fps gaming a real possibility.
The reported latency issues of Morpheus Mk1 have been addressed, with a new 18ms reading, and tracking accuracy has been tweaked with a total of nine LEDs now aiding the positional awareness of the headset.
Essential readingBest PlayStation VR games
With its low price and pre-Christmas on-sale date, PlayStation VR has the chances to go big – even if by its own admission, the tech isn't up to the standards of its competitors. Check out our early PlayStation VR review for more information.
Out October 2016 $399, sony.com

Samsung Gear VR

The Samsung Gear VR is actually Oculus Rift lite, given that the two companies collaborated for the technology.
The Gear VR is simply a case that uses a Samsung Galaxy smartphone as its processor and display. The handset simply slots in front of the lenses, into a Micro USB dock, and uses its Super AMOLED display as your screen. Slot in the phone, stick on the headset and you're into your virtual reality experience. The only catch is that you must use a Samsung handset.
Check them outBest Samsung Gear VR experiences and games
We're not going to lie, the visuals are a little grainy. Like you're looking at your phone with a magnifying glass – which essentially you are. But there are huge benefits.
It's already added a host of games plus a whole marketplace of VR video content called Milk VR, and in terms of content is one of the best platforms out there.
Then there's the price: The Samsung Gear VR is available for just $99, which is just ludicrous value. It's just a shame you need a Samsung handset to take advantage. Read our full Samsung Gear VR review for more detail.

Google Cardboard

The best AR and VR headsets
Not to be outdone, Google announced its Cardboard virtual reality headset at I/O 2014 and unveiled version 2 at the 2015 conference. Popping a smartphone into a cardboard container and then strapping it to your head may sound like a joke, but it actually works and it could become a low-cost way to experience virtual reality.
After all, your smartphone contains all the necessary gyroscopic sensors and positioning systems to accurately track your head movements. Related is Durovis' Dive, which is essentially the same thing made of higher quality and more sweat-resistant materials.
Take a look at the best Google Cardboard VR apps and games.
$16.99 | Amazon

Microsoft HoloLens

Not a copycat of the big VR headsets, Microsoft HoloLens blends virtual and half augmented reality to make one of the most ambitious launches ever planed. The device merges real-world elements with virtual 'holographic' images, meaning you can look at your Minecraft world on your kitchen table, or walk around the surface of Mars in your living room.
Using Kinect-style tech to recognise gestures and voice commands, the headset has a 120-degree field of vision on both axes, and is capable of 'high definition' visuals, but it's still a letterbox compared to the likes of Oculus and Vive. More importantly, however, there's no connection to a PC – a full Windows 10 system is built into the headset and runs off a battery. No, we can't wait to see how long that lasts either.
The Development Edition is available now for Windows Insider members with a price tag of $3,000.
$3,000, microsoft.com

Razer OSVR

Razer's OSVR isn't a rival to the likes of Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and Samsung Gear VR. Instead, it's intended to make life easier for developers to make applications for VR hardware, without technical (software and hardware) limitations getting in their way.
Open source is the big buzzword, breaking down the limitations that hinder development even on Oculus Rift. We have already seen plenty of third parties getting involved to help develop new features, including gesture tracking with a Leap Motion faceplate.
Previously on sale to developers, the general public can now order the dev kit direct through Razer, although the company is keen to stress that it's still not a consumer product and, as such, only has a 30 day warranty.
$299.99, razerzone.com

FOVE VR

FOVE VR differs from the likes of Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR because it offers interactive eye-tracking. Inside the headset is an infrared sensor that monitors the wearer's eyes; offering both a new control method and an edge on its competitors when it comes to realism.
With FOVE, simulated depth-of-field is possible, due to the system knowing exactly what you're looking at, and as a result, the virtual should appear more real.
It's also the ultimate VR lovechild, thanks to investment from Samsung Ventures, Fove claims it will use HTC's Lighthouse tech for full on room tracking. It's not the only deal that Fove and signed: it also makes use of the Wear VR software platform and is compatible with Unity, Unreal, and Cryengine game engines.
From $349, getfove.com

Zeiss VR One

Best VR headsets
Like the Samsung Gear VR, the hardware power for this Zeiss branded headset comes from your smartphone. Unlike Sammy's effort, however, you're not tied to just one mobile with the Zeiss VR One; it will play ball with any iOS or Android handset between 4.7 and 5.2 inches.
It packs a media player for the likes of pictures and YouTube videos and an AR app for augmented experiences, while the open source Unity3D SDK (iOS and Android) means there's plenty of scope for development.
What's more, with lens maker Zeiss doing the optics, VR One definitely has promise.
$129.99, zeiss.com | Amazon

Avegant Glyph

Best VR headsets to buy
The majority of these headsets are large and heavy, but Avegant's Glyph is both sleeker and smaller than the pack. Its svelte size is due to its display technology: rather than using conventional smartphone-like screens to present imagery, it uses an array of micro mirrors to reflect an image directly into your retina.
The Glyph can be worn like a pair of headphones until you pull the screen down over your eyes, where you can enjoy 1280 x 720 for each eyeball. And while it's limited to a 45 degree field of view, the micro mirror array is said to reduce motion sickness and eye fatigue.
$699, avegant.com

Freefly VR headset

Freefly's VR headset looks dorkier than most, thanks to those 'wings', but who cares? It's now compatible with the 200+ Google Cardboard apps, plus it rocks 42mm lenses and a 120-degree field of view while faux leather helps to keep things comfortable. It fits any smartphone with a screen between 4.7in and 6.1in, which is admittedly less than an Archos headset but still covers most flagships in 2016.
As well as featuring head-tracking via your phone's accelerometer, one point of difference over the cheapest options is that Freefly comes with an odd little controller, named Glide, that you hold in one hand. It saves you the cost of buying a Bluetooth peripheral, though we've got to say we prefer a two-handed controller for gaming.

Prototype of HP's futuristic 'Machine' coming next year

hp the machine 1

A prototype of Hewlett-Packard’s futuristic Machine computer will be ready for partners to develop software on by next year, though the finished product is still half a decade away.
The single-rack prototype will have 2,500 CPU cores and an impressive 320TB of main memory, CTO and HP Labs Director Martin Fink told reporters at the HP Discover conference Wednesday. This is more than 20 times the amount of any server on the market today, he claimed.
But there’s a catch: the prototype will use current DRAM memory chips, because the advanced memristor technology that HP eventually plans to use is still under development—one of the big reasons The Machine remains several years away.
HP is placing a huge bet that it can develop a new type of computer that stores all data in vast pools of non-volatile memory. HP says the Machine will be superior to any computer today. A system the size of a refrigerator will be able to do the work of a whole data center, it claims.
Rivals have scoffed, pointing to the massive task of rewriting software for a new architecture. But HP thinks it’s the only way to deal with tomorrow’s vast data sets in an energy efficient way.
hp the machine 2

Silicon photonics components for The Machine on show at the HP Laps booth at HP Discover on June 3, 2015.

Say goodbye to disk drives

In current server architectures, the CPUs lie at the center, with multiple layers of memory and storage attached, including DRAM and hard disk drives. HP’s goal is to do away with disk drives altogether, and replace DRAM with pools of non-volatile memory.
That type of memory keeps its data when the power is switched off, so the Machine can be highly energy efficient. Non-volatile memory exists today, for example NAND Flash, but its performance is slow, at least in high-performance computing terms, and memristors should offer far greater storage density.
Next year’s prototype machine won’t be very energy efficient, however. HP will have to keep all that DRAM powered up so that the data will be available to applications. But it will act as a “proxy” for non-volatile memory, Fink said, allowing partners like SAP to start testing applications.
He sees a later version of the Machine using phase-change memory, which is another type of nonvolatile memory still under development, and memristors arriving after that.
The Machine makes memory “a first class citizen,” he said, with memory pools linked by high-speed silicon photonics that will carry data at 1.2TB per second.
“The Machine is driven by making memory the center of the universe, with the processors surrounding it,” he said. And he has a new name for the architecture the Machine is based on: Memory Driven Computing.

What apps will The Machine run?

HP is having a “huge debate” about the applications that will run on the machine. Most people want to transfer over existing workloads, which HP says will be possible, but more interesting are the new applications not possible today.
Fink offered the example of a plane that lands at an airport 30 minutes early but can’t make use of a nearby empty gate, because the airline’s computer systems aren’t smart enough to know it’s available.
The Machine will let airlines store all the details about every arrival and departure time, along with gate information, weather data and all the other variables, all in-memory and available for immediate processing.
It’s a great story, but as with any major new technology that’s still five years out, it’s impossible to say if it will pan out. Intel once thought it would take over the world with a new processor architecture called Itanium, and that chip seems headed for the scrap heap.
But HP is pushing full steam ahead. A Labs booth on the HP Discover show floor has been given over to showcasing technologies that will go inside the new system, including the silicon photonics components.
One booth shows an emulation tool HP engineers are using to develop the Machine’s OS and firmware. On a laptop, it can simulate the huge memory pools the system will use even though the hardware itself doesn’t exist yet.
Known as the Machine Architecture Simulator, it can also simulate compute nodes for the Machine, and engineers can select from x86 or ARM-type processors, indicating The Machine will be processor agnostic.
In fact, the type of processor isn’t important, Fink said. Large companies could even design their own, application-specific CPUs, or attach GPUs or network interface cards.
One booth shows a mock-up of what part of the Machine will look like—but it’s a non-working model, a reminder of the work HP still has to do.

Gucci Mane Says He's Not Hood Anymore Call Me Sophisticated Gucci

Drake Poses For Photo With Gucci Mane: "That Ain't No Clone"

by Trevor Smith

Drizzy has confirmed that the post-prison Guwop is no impostor, but are the two getting ready to work together again?

Most conspiracy theories go by without a need to be addressed, but Gucci Mane is not your average dude. The Atlanta rapper, who was released from prison after 3 years last month, decided to have fun with a Twitter theory that the Gucci that came home from the pen was actually a government clone. "I will neither support nor deny those accusations," he joked on SnapChat.

Drake has also decided to weigh in on the conspiracy, posing for a picture with Gucci Mane, Mike WiLL Made-It and Zaytoven, and posting the pic with the caption, "That ain't no clone...Big Guwop home."

Now that we're 100% the Guwop who's been killing the Snap game over the last few weeks is the real deal, let's investigate this photo. Is Drake getting ready to work with this powerful team on some new music? Zaytoven's post on Instagram seems to indicate this is indeed the case. "Get use to it. Zaytoven X@champagnepapi #justwaitonit #ziggy #drizzy," he captioned another photo of himself and the 6 God. We've already heard Gucci and Drake together on "Back On Road," we'll have to wait and see what's coming next. Read our recent Behind The Beat segment with Zaytoven here.

UPDATE:
Gucci has been sharing some snapchats of himself, Drake and Zaytoven hanging out at his mansion. Young Thug has also made an appearance, and it seems a music video might be filmed at the house. Check out one of the snaps below.
