Phonte Speaks On Drake Dedicating His BMI Award To Him

Phonte Speaks On Drake Dedicating His BMI Award To Him
Drizzy named Phontigallo as one of his inspirations, but Phonte says a collaboration in the near future isn't likely.
During his acceptance speech for Songwriter of the Year at the BMI Urban Awards this past weekend, Drake thanked Kanye West, Andre 3000 and Phonte for inspiring him. Speaking with The Source, Phontigallo spoke on being named by the Young Money rapper, explaining that he’d like to collaborate for Take Care but can't seem to link with the rapper.
“To my knowledge, it’s not happening. We’ve made contact with each other but all of my attempts to make something real happen have led to a dead end,” he said. “I saw that he dedicated his BMI award to me and while that was a very noble and thoughtful gesture, I’d much rather he had dedicated himself to finishing a verse for one of me and 9th’s songs. That, to me, seems like a more tangible way of showing gratitude. But with that said, I’m still a fan and I think he’s an incredibly talented artist. When Take Care drops, he’s got my money.”
Phonte is currently gearing up for the release of his solo debut, Charity Starts at Home, releasing September 27th.

Clinic warns Wisconsin patients blood exposure possible

MADISON, Wis | Mon Aug 29, 2011 6:45pm EDT
(Reuters) - A Wisconsin health clinic said on Monday it was notifying all 2,345 patients seen by a former employee over the past five years that they may have been exposed to blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis or HIV.
The registered nurse who was certified in diabetic education saw patients at various Dean Clinic locations from 2006 to 2011, the vast majority in Dane County, clinic Chief Executive Dr. Craig Samitt said in a telephone interview.
"We are taking all precautionary steps to test all of the patients even though the risk level is low," Samitt said, adding that Dean Clinic was "casting the net as broadly as we possibly can."
The nurse involved in the case was certified to show diabetic patients how to inject insulin using an insulin pen and how to use a finger stick device when testing blood sugar levels, he said.
She changed needles after demonstrating the devices on patients, but it is possible blood could have adhered to the insulin pens or finger-stick devices, he said.
The insulin pens in question were intended to be used for demonstrations on objects, such as oranges, but not for use on live patients, he said.
Madison, Wisconsin-based Dean Clinic learned of the possible exposures earlier this month. It opened an investigation and notified state and local health officials.
Samitt declined to discuss details of the former employee's departure from Dean Clinic, calling it a "personnel matter."
The clinic said in a statement on Monday that patients potentially were exposed to blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. They began to notify the patients by telephone and letter on Monday.
The clinic's investigation determined that it was an isolated incident, Samitt said.
The clinic, which has about 60 locations in southern Wisconsin, said it was retraining workers on the use of the devices and changing the way it observes clinical practices by its staff members.

Kreayshawn & Rick Ross Camps Confront Each Other At VMAs

After the "Gucci Gucci" rapstress fired shots at Rawse, they finally met at the award show last night.

Kreayshawn has been throwing shots in Rick Ross' direction over the past few months, rapping during a freestyle, "You tryna play me like a boss / But you're faker than Rick Ross/ I'll fucking cut your dick off."

The two finally bumped into one another last night at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, and while the two kept their distance, tensions mounted between the camps.

In a video captured backstage, Ross stands afar while Kreayshawn is planted near the camera. Her manager, Stretch, exchanged heated words with a member of the Maybach Music Group crew, only to have the confrontation broken up and Stretch removed from the scene.

It's not just Jadakiss who was unaware that Lil Wayne would use the three-emcee moment to speak his mind on Jay.
Young Money Records emcee Drake spoke with MTV News last night on the red carpet to the BMI Awards. The Toronto, Ontario native revealed that was unaware of the contents of Lil Wayne's verse on "It's Good" at the time of recording. Drake, along with Jadakiss appeared on the Wayne track, which is included on next week's Tha Carter IV release.
“I just got a beat and did a verse over it,” said Drake, who won awards later in the evening. “Whatever any other individual has to say, you have to ask the man himself. I just did what I know how to do. I just got on a record. I heard the beat, did a verse and heard the final product.”

Nee'Sha - Me And My King

Irene downgraded to tropical storm as it slams NYC

Driving wind and rain lash the Coney Island boardwalk in New York as Irene came closer to the area Sunday, Aug. 28 2011. Irene hit Coney Island with 65-mph winds, making it now a tropical storm. (AP Photo/Craig Ruttle)NEW YORK (AP) — The newly weakened Tropical Storm Irene banged into the edge of New York on Sunday, unleashing rain and wind on a city girded for the worst. Salty floodwater sloshed into lower Manhattan, threatening Wall Street and the heart of the world financial network. The storm pushed a 3 1/2-foot surge of water into New York Harbor, and forecasters said the peak could be twice as tall later in the morning.
The National Hurricane Center said at mid-morning that Irene's winds had fallen to 65 mph, below the 74 mph dividing line between a hurricane and tropical storm. The system was still massive and powerful, forming a figure six that covered the Northeast. It made landfall at Coney Island and was moving at 25 mph, twice as fast as the day before.
As a hurricane, Irene had already unloaded more than a foot of water on North Carolina, spun off tornadoes in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, and left 4 million homes and businesses without power. Nine people were killed.
With steady, heavy rain falling in the nation's largest city, there was nothing left to do but wait. There were sandbags on Wall Street, tarps over subway grates and plywood on windows — at least ones low enough to reach. The subway stopped rolling. Broadway and baseball were canceled.
And 370,000 people had been ordered to move to safer ground, although they appeared in great numbers to have stayed put.
"It's nasty out there and wet," Cindy Darcy said from a 36-floor building facing the harbor. "We unplugged the drains, and we fastened anything loose or removed it." She was up early making bagels for the nine workers and 24 inhabitants who stayed in the building, which is in the evacuation zone.
John F. Kennedy International Airport recorded a tropical storm-force wind gust of 58 mph. Kennedy, where on a normal day tens of thousands of passengers would be arriving from points around the world, was quiet. So were LaGuardia and Newark airports. So was Grand Central Terminal, where the great hall was cleared out entirely. One tube of the Holland Tunnel between New York and New Jersey was closed because of flooding.

"The time for evacuation is over," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Saturday. "Everyone should now go inside and stay inside."
As the storm's outer bands reached New York on Saturday night, two kayakers capsized and had to be rescued off Staten Island. They received summonses and a dressing down from Bloomberg, who said at a press conference that they had recklessly put rescuers' lives at risk.
The National Hurricane Center said the center of the huge storm reached land near Little Egg Inlet, N.J., at 5:35 a.m. The eye previously reached land Saturday in North Carolina before returning to the Atlantic, tracing the East Coast shoreline.
In New York, water began to lap over a sea wall along the East River, washing onto a sidewalk and toward the streets. A storm surge of 4 to 8 feet was expected to rush into the harbor just before the eye crossed land, National Weather Service meteorologist Ashley Sears said. Wind and rain were expected to diminish by afternoon, but if the storm surge deluges Lower Manhattan, the water could linger for hours or even a day.
Among the greatest worries was flooding in lower Manhattan, where the East and Hudson rivers converge with the harbor. That includes Wall Street, and while the New York Stock Exchange can run on generator power, it was unclear how many traders would be show up for work Monday.
At 75 mph, the storm was a Category 1, the least threatening on a 1-to-5 scale. It was as strong was 100 mph Friday.
The total extent of damage was unclear, but officials and in parts of the storm zone were relieved to find their communities with relatively minor problems. Forecasters said the storm remained capable of causing ruinous flooding with a combination of storm surge, high tides and 6 to 12 inches of rain.
"Everything is still in effect," National Hurricane Center spokesman Dennis Feltgen said. "The last thing people should do is go outside. They need to get inside and stay in a safe place until this thing is over."
Irene caused flooding from North Carolina to Delaware, both from the 7-foot waves it pushed into the coast and from heavy rain. Eastern North Carolina got 10 to 14 inches of rain. Virginia's Hampton Roads area was drenched with at least 9 inches, 16 in some spots.
More than 1 million homes and businesses lost power in Virginia alone, where three people were killed by falling trees and about 100 roads were closed. Emergency crews around the region prepared to head out at daybreak to assess the damage, though with some roads impassable and rivers still rising, it could take days.
Some held out optimism that their communities had suffered less damage than they had feared.
"I think it's a little strong to say we dodged a bullet. However, it certainly could have turned out worse for the Hampton Roads area," said National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Montefusco.
In Virginia Beach, the city posted on Twitter late Saturday that initial reports were promising, with the resort area suffering minimal damage. Ocean City, Md., Mayor Rick Meehan posted wind readings and reported: "Scattered power outages. No reports of major damage!"
Charlie Koetzle was up at 4 a.m. on Ocean City's boardwalk. Asked about damage, he mentioned a sign that blew down.
"The beach is still here, and there is lots of it," he said. "I don't think it was as bad as they said it was going to be."
In North Carolina, where at least two people were killed, Gov. Beverly Perdue said Irene inflicted significant damage along the North Carolina coast and some areas were unreachable.
"Folks are cut off in parts of North Carolina, and obviously we're not going to get anybody to do an assessment until it's safe," she said.
Television coverage showed evidence of damage across eastern North Carolina with downed trees and toppled power lines.
A falling tree also killed one person in Maryland. A surfer and another beachgoer in Florida were killed in heavy waves caused by the storm.
The storm arrived in Washington just days after an earthquake damaged some of the capital's most famous structures, including the Washington Monument. Irene could test Washington's ability to protect its national treasures and its poor.
Near the epicenter of the quake, in Mineral, Va., trees were down, but the power stayed on.
"I was telling people, 'All I can say is we all better go to church on Sunday,'" Mayor Pam Harlowe said. "But unfortunately a bunch of them are closed."
A nuclear reactor at Maryland's Calvert Cliffs went offline automatically when a large piece of aluminum siding blew off and hit the facility's main transformer late Saturday night. An "unusual event" was declared, the lowest of four emergency classifications by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, but Constellation Energy Nuclear Group spokesman Mark Sullivan said the facility and all employees were safe.
Near Callway, Md., about 30 families were warned that a dam could spill over, causing significant flooding, and that they should either leave their homes or stay upstairs. St. Mary's County spokeswoman Sue Sabo said the dam was not in danger of breaching.
Irene made its first landfall just after first light near Cape Lookout, N.C., at the southern end of the Outer Banks, the ribbon of land that bows out into the Atlantic Ocean. Shorefront hotels and houses were lashed with waves, two piers were destroyed and at least one hospital was forced to run on generator power.
Across the Eastern Seaboard, at least 2.3 million people were under orders to move to somewhere safer.
Annette Burton, 72, was asked to leave her Chester, Pa., neighborhood because of danger of rising water from a nearby creek. She said she planned to remain in the row house along with her daughter and adult grandson. She kept an eye on the park across the street, which floods during heavy rains.
"I'm not a fool. If it starts coming up from the park, I'm leaving," she said. "It's the wind I'm more concerned about than anything."
Irene was the first hurricane to make landfall in the continental United States since 2008, and came almost six years to the day after Katrina ravaged New Orleans on Aug. 29, 2005. Experts said that probably no other hurricane in American history had threatened as many people.
Airlines said 9,000 flights were canceled, including 3,000 on Saturday. The number of passengers affected could easily be millions because so many flights make connections on the East Coast.

ADI ARMOUR - OVERKILL

ADI ARMOUR DEBUTS HIS VIDEO FOR OVERKILL OFF THE HER EP MIXTAPE

Suge Knight - Talks Movies, Diddy

Al Pacino Thanks Rappers For 'Scarface' Revival

'I think they've helped us tremendously,' actor tells MTV News of hip-hop community's support of 1983 movie.

LOS ANGELES -- Hard to believe, but when Brian De Palma's "Scarface" was released in 1983, it wasn't the beloved cult classic it is now. Critics panned the underworld drama in which actor Al Pacino played Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee who went from dishwasher to cocaine drug lord.
Today, the film lives in infamy with its ultra-violent-yet-indelible scenes and quotable one-liners like "Say hello to my little friend." Most of the appreciation and film's support has come from rappers, a fact not lost on Pacino.

"The hip-hop people and the rappers got together and they made a video and they talked about the movie. I don't think anybody's ever talked about it as articulately and clearly. I understood it better having heard them talk about it," Pacino told MTV News on the red carpet for a party celebrating the Blu-ray release for "Scarface" on Tuesday night. "I mean, they really get it and they understand it, and that's a great thing. They've been very supportive all these years. I think they've helped us tremendously."
The documentary Pacino referred to is 2003's "Scarface: Origins of a Hip-Hop Classic." In it, rappers like Diddy, Nas and Snoop Dogg analyze the movie's impact. The 71-year-old actor likens rap's affinity for his film with his appreciation for the 1932 original version of "Scarface."
"When I saw it for the first time -- and I don't mean mine, I mean Paul Muni's from [the] 1930s -- I had that feeling about it too," he said. "Anything when the hero is just reaching for something."
Ultimately, Pacino believes the appeal of his character lies in his desire to make something out of nothing -- a mantra rappers have been preaching since the 1980s.
"Man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for? That's a great expression, and I think that's Tony Montana," Pacino poetically explained. "Reaching for something he can't get but he keeps going. There is an element of hope in it, believe it or not."

Hurricane Irene: N.Y. and four other states declare emergency

       New_York_braces_for_Hurrica
New York became the latest state to declare a state of emergency in a scramble to get ahead of Hurricane Irene as the storm prepares to make a potentially deadly drive up the East Coast.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s declaration Thursday follows those of Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley. North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue –- whose state is projected to take the first hit Saturday when Hurricane Irene makes landfall in the U.S.  –- limited her declaration to counties east of Interstate 95.
The emergency declarations expand the states’ abilities to free up funds and cut through bureaucratic red tape to speed resources and emergency personnel to emergency areas.
It's also a sign that of how damaging -- and deadly -- authorities fear that Hurricane Irene can be.
PHOTOS: In the path of Hurricane Irene
Right now, Hurricane Irene is a Category 3 storm with winds clocked at nearly 130 mph as it raked over the Bahamas on Thursday. But it has the potential to grow in force and intensity to a Category 4 storm before reaching the easternmost reaches of North Carolina and its fragile barrier islands.
The storm has abruptly interrupted vacation plans for families and visitors in those areas as authorities order them to move to safety.

Foxy Brown Says She & Mary J. Blige Intended To Release A Joint LP Titled "Best Of Both Girls"

Foxy Brown Says She & Mary J. Blige Intended To Release A Joint LP Titled
Fox Boogs and MJB recorded five songs for the project, which never surfaced.
During a recent live performance in Newark, New Jersey, Foxy Brown revealed that she and Mary J. Blige originally intended to release a collaborative album. While addressing the crowd, Fox Boogs explained that they recorded five tracks together for an album titled Best of Both Girls, inspired by Jay-Z and R. Kelly’s The Best of Both Worlds.
“People don’t know, me and Mary J. Blige recorded five records for an album called The Best of Both Girls, like Jay and R. Kelly did The Best of Both Worlds,” she said. “Mary’s like a big sister to me. And in the middle of recording those records, I lost all my hearing.”
The former Firm member said that she was originally supposed to be featured on Blige’s “Enough Cryin’” single, but her hearing loss prevented her from recording. Instead of getting another female rapper to do the part, Blige opted to rap the part for her under her alias Brook-Lynn.
“So when you hear Mary in the video like, ‘You turned your back and back I came running / But the simple fact is that you ain't want me,’ that was me. And Mary had enough respect to say, ‘Listen, before I go get another rap bitch to do your part, I’ma call myself Brook-Lyn and I’ma learn ya part and I’ma go in and rap it for you.’”

Outlawz Confirm That They Smoked 2Pac's Ashes

Outlawz Confirm That They Smoked 2Pac's Ashes
Taking a line from 'Pac's song "Black Jesus" seriously, some of the group members smoked his remains.
Addressing the myth that Outlawz smoked Tupac Shakur’s ashes, the remaining trio claims that the rumors are true. Speaking with Vlad TV, E.D.I. Mean, Young Noble and Hussein Fatal (who says he wasn't there at the time) recalled cutting marijuana with ‘Pac’s remains and smoking the hybrid during a beach memorial.
“Yes, it’s definitely true. Think it was the night of his… Had a little memorial for him with his mom and his family and shit. We had hit the beach, threw [in] a lot of shit he liked at the beach. Some weed, some chicken wings, he loved orange soda, all that kind of shit,” said Young Noble. “‘Pac loved that kind of shit, so we were giving him our own farewell and that night, I forgot which one of us came up with it. Had his ashes and shit. […] We twisted up some of that great granddaddy California kush and mixed the big homie with it. Flowing through our system, you heard?”
E.D.I. Mean says that it was his idea to mix the smoke the ashes after hearing a line on his track “Black Jesus.”
“I came up with that shit,” said E.D.I. Mean. “If you listen to ‘Black Jesus,’ he said, ‘Last wishes, niggas smoke my ashes.’ That was a request that he had. Now, how serious he was about it? We took it serious.”

Kanye West Takes Part In A 15-Minute Freestyle During Poland's Coke Live Music Festival

Kanye West Takes Part In A 15-Minute Freestyle During Poland's Coke Live Music Festival

Although he was several hours short of the freestyling record, that didn't keep Kanye West from taking part in a lengthy freestyle in Poland.
During his performance at the Coke Live Music Festival in Krakow, Poland this week Kanye West broke into an almost 15-minute long freestyle following his performance of “Runaway.”
After being joined on stage by Pusha T for “Runaway” Kanye went on to take part in an extended version of the song which included his lengthy freestyle.
While impressive Kanye’s freestyle was a good deal short of the Guinness World Record for freestyling which is currently held by Chiddy of Hip Hop duo Chiddy Bang who freestyled for a jaw-dropping nine hours straight earlier this year.
Held at the Polish Aviation Museum the Coke Live Music Festival also included performances from N.E.R.D., Muse, The Chemical Brothers, and 30 Seconds To Mars.
Watch amateur footage of Kanye performing “Runaway” and his freestyle below.

Lil Wayne Disses Jay-Z On "It's Good" Featuring Jadakiss & Drake

                                Lil Wayne Disses Jay-Z On
Weezy responds to Hov's "baby money" diss on "H.A.M."
Jay-Z made a thinly veiled diss towards Baby on “H.A.M.,”  saying, "you got baby money.” In a new leak off his upcoming album Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne not-so-subtly fires back at Hov on “It’s Good” featuring Jadakiss and Drake, using the third verse on the track to respond.
On the cut, he raps, “Talkin’ ‘bout baby money, I gotcha baby money / Kidnap your bitch get that how much you love your lady money / I know you fake, nigga / Press your brakes, nigga / I’ll take you out, that’s a date, nigga / I’m a grown ass blood, stop playing with me / Play asshole, and get an ass whippin’ / I think you pussycat, hello kitty.”
Wayne previously spoke on Jay’s diss, saying he wouldn’t turn anything into a full-blown beef but would address it. “Me and my wit, given my wit, I would probably play off of it," he said. "But I wouldn't make it a competition, because actually, the subject that he's talking about in that line, I can't box with the card. I'd be the first one to tell you that, given my wit, and the type of person that I am, I'd capitalize and I'd play off of it. Yeah, I definitely would."

Milwaukee UP: Viva Fidel shows you his version of the "414"

from TwitterJC Poppe's Blogs

Political rap has never died, even though it's not really present in the mainstream anymore – or for the last couple of decades, give or take.
When I say political rap, I don't mean songs like "Where Is The Love" by Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake. I mean political rap that seeks to expose the underbelly of society, ranging in topics from conspiracy theories to legitimate gripes against the powers that be or surrounding community.
Viva Fidel, who is a part of the larger group Taste Emcees, recently released a street video for a song called "414" that speaks out on Milwaukee issues past and present, including a very memorable clip of an emotional outburst by a family member of one of the victoms of Jeffrey Dahmer's killing spree that will make anybody who is able to remember that time in Milwaukee's history cringe.

Game Talks Jay-Z Beef, Says Hov Told Him "Most Of You New Rappers Won't Last"

Game Talks Jay-Z Beef, Says Hov Told Him
Chuck Taylor explains why he's harbored beef with Hov for the past seven years.
Game’s one-sided, but well-publicized beef with Jay-Z, has been a source of contention for the past few years, with the most recent jabs at Hov being delivered via the diss track “Uncle Otis.”
The Compton, California native has previously admitted that the “bad blood” between the two began to boil after one particularly upsetting conversation he had when he first met Jay-Z, about seven years ago. And this week, he finally shared a few more details about the encounter.
During a clip from the upcoming web series "The Next 48 Hours with The Game," Chuck Taylor is questioned by radio personality Big Boy about the root of his issues with Hov. “I met Jay-Z a long time ago in the 40/40 Club and he seemed like a cool dude and I asked him something—‘How do you stay relevant?’—and I ain’t really like his answer. So ever since then I just kinda take shots here and shot there,” Game said.
Since that tidbit had already been public knowledge, Big Boy continued to press for more details on what Jay actually said that was so offensive. Game tried to avoid the question, replying, “I’ll tell you off air, anybody else who wants to know, just follow me on Twitter and ask me,” but eventually he gave in and wrote the answer on a piece of paper. Apparently, Game figured that with someone else reading it out loud, it was less likely to “stir up something crazy.”
According to Game’s hand-scribbled note, this is the response, from Jay-Z, that triggered a few years worth of mudslinging: “Most of you new rappers won’t last long anyway, maybe you should think of another lane.”

Syl Johnson Planning To Sue Jay-Z & Kanye West For Uncleared Sample On "The Joy"

Syl Johnson Planning To Sue Jay-Z & Kanye West For Uncleared Sample On

Hov and 'Ye allegedly used a sample of Johnson's "Different Strokes" and didn't clear it through the proper channels.
Veteran soul singer Syl Johnson recently came upon Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “The Joy,” included on the deluxe edition of Watch the Throne, but was surprised to hear an uncleared sample from his song “Different Strokes” used on the track.
According to an official statement from Numero Group, Island Def Jam originally contacted the label to clear the sample for a deluxe version of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But after the deluxe version failed to surface, Johnson was shocked to see the song on WTT and the wrong copyright holders credited in the liner notes.
After Numero Group tweeted earlier today suggesting that a lawsuit was brewing, they issued a statement on their website. Read the full letter below.

Hey @kanyewest & @JayZ, thanks for illegally sampling Syl Johnson on "The Joy" and then crediting us(?). Have your lawyers call our lawyer.less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply
It’s been almost twenty years since Cypress Hill issued their Black Sunday LP, a great record but not lacking in uncleared samples. One of those was for Syl Johnson’s “Is It Because I’m Black.” Two decades and several lawsuits later, Syl Johnson is a veteran of copyright infringement cases, and has done very well for himself clearing samples from his fertile catalog (we’re glad to say we’ve helped him with a few) for use in numerous tracks. He’s been amply paid, as he is quick to boast in his concerts, by acts like Wu-Tang Clan, Kid Rock, and Michael Jackson. Other performers… have not been so respectful.
Last summer we took a call from Syl wondering if we knew anything about his vocal appearing in Kanye West’s “The Joy,” which had been making the rounds on the internet via Kanye’s “Good Fridays” series. We approached the sampling house clearing the record (whom we’ve worked with on several projects) about getting it cleared. They weren’t sure what was happening with the track, but it was rumored to be included on a deluxe version of his upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. About three weeks before MBDTF was to be released, we got a frantic email requesting the immediate clearance of the track. After a little negotiating, we came to a price and a verbal agreement (one that is completely standard.) Paperwork to confirm all of this was to arrive for counter signature. Weeks passed. Then months. No deluxe version appeared in the market place, and our emails and phone calls to Def Jam’s business affairs department went unanswered. We spent the better part of five months trying to get paid, and finally handed it to our lawyer who recommended not pursuing legal action as the song wasn’t actually being sold. Syl could have filed a more complex suit involving the use of his voice to promote the #1 album, but decided against it. Eventually Kanye was going to want to clear some other part of our catalog, and we’d get Syl his money with leverage. With only a non-binding email to solidify the terms, we began the arduous process of having the song removed from money making channels like You Tube, for which Syl was seeing nothing. We thought the song was dead and moved on. It happens all the time.
Late last night, we received a phone call from Syl—who was nearly in tears—asking if we knew why The Numero Group appeared in the credits to a new Kanye West/Jay Z album called Watch The Throne. We had no idea. The credits misidentify Numero as the publisher of the sampled song (“Different Strokes”), which of course we are not, and any routine search of the BMI database would show otherwise. Wondering why we weren’t consulted on this new use, and baffled why we appear in the credits, for which we never asked, we contacted the sample clearance house. Even they cannot get a response from their own clients. Island Def Jam seems to think that Syl doesn’t have any fight left in him. We’re betting otherwise.

Trey Songz Says He Would Like To Collaborate With Drake For A Full-Length LP

Trey Songz Says He Would Like To Collaborate With Drake For A Full-Length LP
Trigga Trey says the resulting album would be "very authentic."
With Jay-Z and Kanye West recently conquering the charts with their collaborative LP Watch the Throne, Trey Songz says that he would love to collaborate with Drake in the same capacity. Speaking with TheSource.com, Trigga Trey explained that the musical chemistry is there and that the results would be “authentic.”
“When thinking along the lines of that, Drake is the first person that comes to mind that I am that musically comfortable with in that space,” he said. “He is a friend of mine as well, and I think we can pull something off like that could sound very authentic.”
Like with Jay and ‘Ye, he said that he couldn’t force a collaborative LP, and that it would have to come organically.
“I mean, you got to look at (Kanye and Jay-Z) and see how long it took them to do it, you know? So it has to be organic in whatever way it happens. It can’t be a business decision and you can’t look at it in a way of making it lucrative. I think it has to be something that you are definitely going into for music’s sake. It has to be something real, because if it’s not authentic you can hear it.”

Lauryn Hill Reflects On Creating "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill" Lauryn Hill Reflects On Creating "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill"

                                 Lauryn Hill Reflects On Creating

Ms. Hill reminisces on recording her 1998 solo debut.
As one of the headliners for this year’s Rock the Bells 2011 Festival, Ms. Lauryn Hill is treating crowds to a full performance of her classic solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. In an interview with Reebok Classics, the former Fugee reminisced on the album’s impact and what it meant to pour herself into her music.
“I think we understood that it was going to be landmark, but I didn’t understand to what degree other people would be really impacted by what was done,” she said. “I was really trying to express myself. Like I say all the time, I make music not necessarily for selfish reasons, but I make the music that I want to hear. And when you find out that other people want to hear that too, how could you not be excited about that?”
She explains that the music allowed her to grow into her artistic shoes, and that she was able to execute ideas that channeled a nostalgic sentiment.
“If anything, it was just about learning how to trust my individual voice. I had some very strong ideas, and I felt very strong about those ideas. I was excited, and once the momentum started going in a certain direction, it was just a matter of working out the kinks and continuing to do it. I think for me, I was excited about taking this music that I thought was beautiful, old school doo-wop music, cats used to harmonize and the beautiful harmonies and melodies and just taking that and making something contemporary that my generation could get excited about.”

HIP HOP LEGACY OF MILWAUKEE (extended Track Lacer version)

OK....Geraud Blanks just completed a 4 part series called "Hip Hop Legacy: MILWAUKEE".  It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to acknowledge everybody because there are wayyyyyyyyyyy more people doing this than people realize. Point blank, MILWAUKEE is not taken that seriously outside of Wisconsin...but here are a few things that were not covered that I felt were important and worth mentioning that weren't hit on in the 4 part series:
THA D.R.E. and A-G-2-A-Ke
ok tha d.r.e aka "dirty mouf" needs to be credited for THREE THINGS. Most recently, for starting the trend of the "club hit" in 2005 with "punk ho".  after tony neal started playing that, nas (yes, the "illmatic" nas) tried to sign tha d.r.e. to ill will records. the response tony neal got from dre's song is what led to ray nitti, ray rizzy, and all others their chance to get spun on a regular basis in milwaukee clubs. d.r.e also had nationwide video exposure on the playboy channel's music video show called "hot rocks" for his song "modern day pimpin" off the 1994 EP, "deep on a solo creep", which also led to a record deal offer from eazy e and ruthless records. d.r.e. also should get some credit for putting baby drew and da country boy clique in the spotlight as his album was the first time they were prominently featured on a mil-town release. the song was called "the drought (re-rock remix).////ok a-g-2-a-ke gotta deal with scarface of rap-a-lot records in 1998. they received a platinum plaque for appearing on scarface's "my homies" double cd. a-g-2-a-ke producer 88 keyz produced coo coo cal's entire 1996 debut album "game". bottom line, without these two...the careers of two of our 414 favorites (baby drew and coo coo cal) could have went differently

D.Y.I.N.G. B.R.E.E.D.
d slick, big bank, the ecks-man, pitt and the pendulum, shote mack, jay roll. they were the hood version of wu-tang clan in milwaukee. they had groups and solo artists all in one camp and released a cold compilation album in 1992. so much of what we heard in the early 90's from the mil could be linked back to their camp and that needs to be respected.

RICO LOVE
hey. say what you wanna say. "he make R&B music". but he's on the charts right now as we speak. ever heard "motivation" by kelly rowland? usher taught him that songwriting was the key to making money and longevity...so he stuck with it. but the dude is nice on the mic. might have turned some people off with cockiness...but mr. do-it-to-death was cocky, too. he was just the new version. had ma$e on a mixtape with him and got co-signed by p. diddy. if usher would have actually put out his "7th element" album with the single "whatcha sayin?"...who knows what could have happened.

INFINITE RECORDINGS
this represents young twan aka tweezy, mr. do it to death, and yeah....coo coo cal. they put out a compilation in 1999 that could compete with anything out today. mack 10, spice 1, and the outlawz (yes, 2 Pac's outlawz) all appeared on their stuff. tony draper from suave house (home of tela and eightball/mjg) signed them to a distribution deal.
THE SOUTHSIDE OF THE MIL
the soutside of the 414 gets almost no recognition. shadow clan and a few other southside rappers made the v-100 milwaukee flavaz compilation in 1999. i did a show with queen sassy and saw sinista and rock solid perform for the first time. they are dope. plus, there is a spanish-speaking rap group on the southside called kinto sol who sells crazy, crazy records. i'm talking like 10,000 + because they have a national following from latinos. think im playing, go to their facebook music page. they got 16,000 "LIKES".
ALBUM TITLES THAT GOT CUT
google "black elephant", "nssg's", "tha d.r.e.", "a-g-2-a-ke", "track lacer", and "country boy clique". all of the album titles should pop up. i thought it was important to mention album titles in the piece geraud wrote because that's the only way to go research who did what and to be able to see hwo people still react to those CDs.

UNSIGNED HYPE IN THE SOURCE
there was a group affiliated with spice rak called "ghetto fab". they were the first milwaukee artists to get honored with the source magazine's unsigned hype in 2003.
OK...THAT'S IT. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I SHARED THIS....AND I WELCOME ANY LOVE OR HATE FOR ANYTHING I HAD TO SAY.
M's down. W's up.

Rap Release Dates: Lil Wayne, Smoke DZA, Bow Wow, Statik Selektah

Rap Release Dates: Lil Wayne, Smoke DZA, Bow Wow, Statik Selektah
This week Game drives "R.E.D." home as Pusha T continues his "Fear Of God" while Glasses Malone gears for his long awaited album and Statik Selektah announces a Fall release.
With only two weeks left in August, there's still enough heat to keep the last moments of summer going. Today, Game drops his long overdue The R.E.D. Album (check out the review and snippets ), while Pusha T delivers Fear Of God Part 2: Let Us Pray. On the indie-side, Apathy brings Honkey Kong (check out the teaser and the DJ Premier produced "Stop What Ya Doin" with Celph Titled) as J-Live drops S.P.T.A. (Said Person Of That Ability).
Next week, Lil Wayne takes over the start of the week, as Tha Carter IV will meet a surprising Sunday release on August 28th. His track "She Will" with Drake brought over a few remixes (most of which were taken down due to copyright infringement - sorry Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes ). However, Trey Songz brought his own sauce to the party with his Trigga Mix . The next day, August 30th packs a ton of new material from some unsung heroes of Hip Hop. Blu will bring the holy J e s u s, while Glasses Malone's Beach Cruiser will finally see the light of day. His official single "Dope" dropped last month, but a Cruiser extra "211" surfaced last week. While Soopa Fly, Ja Rule, and Timbo King (check "High Ranking" with R.A. the Rugged Man) also see releases, the most anticipated is probably Smoke DZA's Rolling Stoned. DZA has been dropping Rolling Stoned tracks left and right, most recently "4 Loko" with newcomer ASAP Rocky and "On the Corner" with Bun B and Big K.R.I.T. (produced by K.R.I.T.).
September has a lot to look forward to, especially with the release of J. Cole's Cole World: The Sideline Story arriving September 27th (check out DX's preview of the project). Cole no longer shares that release date with Yelawolf's Radioactive (and the single "Hard White" with Lil Jon), as Yela pushed his album back to October 25th. Before that, Drake's Take Care pops up (recent leak is "Headlines" ) on October 4th with Maino, Exile and Freestyle Fellowship, while Cam and Vado take over with Boss Of All Bosses 3 a day later. By the end of October, producer Statik Selektah - who has been a mixtape staple - will being his own album Population Control to the forefront. Bring on the Fall!
