Watch The Field, World Star Hip Hop’s Documentary About Rap and Violence in Chicago

World Star Hip Hop makes its film-making debut with The Field: Chicago, a look at the relationship between the city’s rap scene and street violence epidemic. Executive produced by WSHH founder Q, the documentary features interviews with Lil Durk, King Louie, Katie Got Bandz, Tink, Lil Bibby, Lil Herb, Lil Mouse, Young Chop, Rhymefest and more. It’s a measured exploration of the grim realities of “Chiraq” that simultaneously devastate communities and inspire much of the city’s popular music. The word “drill” has a tendency, particularly on the internet, to become detached from its origins; one can forget that before it was a catch-all term for young Chicago street rap, it was a synonym for murder. Though there are bright moments—Durk, Katie, and Louie essentially recounting being saved by rap, and Rhymefest presenting alternatives to gang affiliation—it closes with the gut-wrenching notification that two of the featured rappers (including L’A Capone, the 17-year-old Lil Durk affiliate whose posthumous debut mixtape was released this week) were murdered between the doc’s filming and its release.

RICK ROSS BUYS EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S FORECLOSED ATLANTA MANSION

If you were wondering if Rick Ross’ is really ballin’ wonder no more.  Big man has just scooped up the house previously owned by Boxing legend Evander Holyfield.
The mansion boasts 109 rooms and is an astounding 54,000 square feet.  The house also sits on 235 acres that will have to be mowed.  For entertainment, there is a bowling alley a movie theater and a stable, just in case Ricky Rozay wants to do some horseback riding.  The dining room holds 100 people or 1 Rick Ross and 10 guests.
The house was foreclosed on and the amount that Ross paid has not been revealed although Evander owed $14 million when he vacated back in July 2012.

The cost to run a house as big as this exceeds $1 Million dollars per year.  So Ross will have to earn $1 million just to run the house, plus the house payment, living expenses, car payments and any other mortgages he may have on other homes.  Suddenly that net worth of $28 million isn’t looking as big as it did before.
Rozay is dropping his album entitled “Mastermind” on March 4.  The lead single, “Devil is a Lie” featuring Jay Z has been in rotation for a few weeks.  Looks like Ross’ is going to have to move some serious units to pay the bills!
Here are more pictures of that crib….VAAANGLORIOUS!

Juicy J
Last year Juicy J announced he would be giving away a $50,000 college scholarship to the winner of a twerk contest. He asked women to send him video of them “telling [him] or showing [him] why you deserve this money.”
Juicy has now revealed the winner of the contest, and she earned the money without even having to twerk. That’s because the rules of the contest said the winner did not actually need to dance on camera in order to get the prize.

Juicy presented the money to State of College of Florida student Zaire Holmes. The biology major plans to use the money to help pay for her lab costs.

The Raptors are also weighing possible OVO-inspired team color change.
The National Basketball Association's Toronto Raptors have announced that January 11 will be deemed "Drake Night."
In honor of "Drake Night," the Toronto basketball squad has partnered with OVO Sound to release a limited edition "Drake Night" T-shirt, slated to be given to the evening's attendees for the home team's game against the visiting Brooklyn Nets, a basketball organization that was previously partially owned by Jay Z.
Beyond "Drake Night," Sports Illustrated reports that the Toronto Raptors are weighing the possibility of a re-branding effort that would change the team's colors to OVO's black and gold scheme.
In September, Drake and the Toronto Raptors announced a partnership. Drake was named the team's global ambassador, an honor that the YMCMB emcee spoke about at the announcement press conference.
“There’s something genuine about this city," Drake said at the time. “There’s something great. I think aside from that with All-Star coming here there’s an untapped nightlife, restaurants, culture. There’s so much to soak in and I think that our goal is in 2016 to truly showcase that, not only for the players, but also for everybody.”
Toronto is slated to host NBA's All-Star Weekend in 2016.

Nipsey Hussle Speaks On The Rollin 60s Reaching A "Corporate Level"

Nipsey Hussle reveals why he joined the Rollin 60s, says leaving home at an early age played a role in joining the gang.
Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle recently shed some light on what it’s like to be a member of the Rollin 60s, a faction of the Crip gang, during a newly-released interview with Vlad TV. Nipsey, who is a member of the Rollin 60s, even detailed the jumping in process for new members of the street gang.
The West Coast wordsmith didn’t share the details of how he was jumped in, but revealed that the experience can vary depending on the person who orchestrated the jumping in.
“You gotta fight…It’s basically whoever orchestrating your put on basically,” Nipsey said. “Sometimes it be young niggas putting you on and you just get ran. You just fight until niggas feel like you done fighting. Sometimes it be somebody that got a little more love for young dudes and a little more compassion and you might have a different experience. Some niggas just got they ass beat and still wasn’t from the hood. Cause it was young niggas putting ‘em on and didn’t give a fuck about ‘em.”
As a member of the Rollin 60s, Nipsey says his generation has helped bring the Rollin 60s to a “corporate level.”
“It’s one of the biggest gangs,” he said. “One of the biggest Crip gangs…Our generation was kinda responsible for like putting it on the map in terms of like hustling and business. You know what I’m saying? Making moves outside of the streets. And taking it to a corporate level. Not necessarily gangbanging, but taking the legacy of our area to like the corporate level.”
According to Nipsey, he attributes his involvement with the gang to leaving his home and supporting himself at an early age. He also says that joining the Rollin 60s seemed to make sense since he always found himself in the middle of something.
“None of my family members was from Rollin 60s,” Nipsey said. “My dad came from Africa, so his whole side of my family is in Africa. And then my mom she only had one brother and it was her…I think it was like a combination of just being [at that] age. I left my house kinda early. When I was probably like 14. Out of my mom’s house. I went to go live with my granny when I was 14. I just was taking care of myself early on and I was doing things to try to get money. So, I could support myself. I always wanted to do music. That was my first passion before anything.
“Getting into it’s like—we were just raised like if you with me and something go down, I’m in it,” he added. “Whether I’m from the shit or not. You know what I’m saying? So, after a while it just be like you always in the middle of some shit you might as well be part of it. Exactly. Or don’t be part of it and get the fuck out the way. Either one.”
Nipsey’s interview with Vlad TV comes weeks after the release of his Crenshaw mixtape, which fans could either download for free or purchase for $100. Among those Nipsey says purchased his mixtape was fellow rapper Jay Z.
“Shout out to Jay Z for buying 100 copies of #‎Crenshaw!,” Nipsey said via a Facebook status update.
With Jay Z’s purchase and purchases from fans, the Los Angeles emcee reportedly made $100,000 in sales.

Lord Jamar Says White People Gravitate To White Artists "Doing Black Music"

Lord Jamar Says White People Gravitate To White Artists "Doing Black Music"

Lord Jamar calls Miley Cyrus a "white Rihanna," says Miley's "whiteness will propel her even further than Rihanna."
In a recent interview with Vlad TV, Brand Nubian rapper Lord Jamar briefly circled back to the topics discussed in his September 2013 interview with the website. In his September interview, the New York lyricist declared that white rappers “are guests in the house of Hip Hop” and in his most recent interview with Vlad TV, the New York emcee stated that that comment also goes for Eminem.
In addition to labeling Eminem a guest in Hip Hop, Jamar shared his belief that white artists need a co-sign from a black person in order to be successful in black music. Among the artists Jamar says received a co-sign are the Beastie Boys, Justin Timberlake, and Eminem. He also suggested that Vanilla Ice’s lack of a co-sign is the reason why the rapper wasn’t successful.
“If this is not black music then how come every white artist needs a co-sign from a black person? Beastie Boys had the co-sign from Run DMC,” Jamar said. “Eminem had the co-sign from Dr. Dre. Vanilla Ice didn’t have a co-sign. That’s why he didn’t fuckin last. Macklemore, see I don’t know who his co-sign is. Now he might be an exception to the rule, but I don’t know who his co-sign is. But at the same time, black peoples not really fucking with Macklemore like that.”
Prior to sharing his thoughts on co-signs, Lord Jamar offered his opinion on Miley Cyrus and revealed that the singer is trying to be a “white Rihanna.” He also stated that since Miley is white she’ll likely be more successful than Rihanna.
“She’s doing historically what a lot of artists have done,” he said. “You know what I mean? The ones that go for the shock value. But she’s also trying to pull from black music. Like to me, she’s trying to be the white Rihanna. She’s just pushing a little further. I mean, listen to her music. Listen to the way it sounds. The way she’s singing. Like she’s trying to sound like Rihanna right now. Like let’s keep it real. She cut her hair short trying to look like Rihanna. You dig what I’m saying? But she knows that that whiteness will propel her even further than Rihanna. Because in a country where white people are the majority, that’s what they want to see.”
Detroit wordsmith Eminem was later brought up during Jamar’s conversation on white artists and black music and was subsequently labeled a “guest in the house of Hip Hop.”
“Just like in Eminem. We had a lot of people talking about ‘Is Eminem a guest in the house of Hip Hop?’ You’re mothafuckin right he is,” Jamar said. “Just cause he sold the most records and all of that like…I fucks with Eminem, you know, as a lyricist and all of that, but it’s like we are in America. Okay? Where the majority of the people are white. Now the majority of the people in the world are not white. But here in America they’re white. So, when you have a white artist doing black music, white people just gravitate to that crazily. You know what I mean? But sales doesn’t equate to greatness.”
Following Lord Jamar’s comments about white rappers in September of last year, he’s shared his thoughts on artists both black and white. Last month, he offered advice to Chicago rapper Chief Keef and in the same month he demanded an apology from Alabama emcee Yelawolf after he informed Jamar to “shut the fuck up” during an interview with Vlad TV.
“I’m gonna give you a chance to publicly apologize,” he said. “And if you can do that I’ll leave you alone. If you don’t, if I ever see you it’s on on sight. I don’t have nothing to talk about. I’m running at you at a hundred miles an hour. On sight. That’s how I grew up. You know what I mean? So, that’s all I can say really. I’m not even emotional about it really. It’s nothing to me.”
