Famed Political Activist Calls Jay-Z A 'Slave' & Criticizes His Lyrics

Famed political activist Fred Hampton Jr., the son of slain Black Panther Leader Fred Hampton, took the time to call out Jay-Z on some of his Watch The Throne lyrics at a recent event at University of Chicago.

A screening of the documentary The Black Power Mixtape 1967 - 1975 was held this past weekend and during a panel discussion of the film, Hampton referenced a Jay-Z line from the song Murder To Excellence: "I arrived on the day Fred Hampton died/ Uh, real niggas just multiply".

According to MTV Rapfix, Hampton expressed his dislike of the line, saying it minimizes his father's sacrifice, "Fred Hampton didn't die... he was assassinated. Saying Fred Hampton died is like the school teacher telling students that Christopher Columbus discovered America".

Hampton went on to refer to Jigga as "Slave-Z" and question the impetus of the line.

Fred Hampton Sr. was deputy chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party in the late 1960s and was gunned down in an FBI raid of his home in 1969. Hampton was only 21 years old at the time of his death.

Although it is assumed no harm or disrespect was meant by the lyrics, neither Jay-Z or Kanye West have spoken out about the incident. Chicago rapper and Kanye collaborator, Rhymefest, happened to be in attendance at the event.
