EXCLUSIVE: Turk Files Default Motion Against Cash Money After Label Misses Lawsuit Deadline

After filing a lawsuit against his former label Cash Money Records in February, HotBoy Turk’s attorney has now filed a motion of default against the company. The New Orleans rapper claims Cash Money, along with publishing wing Money Mack Music, owes him at least $1.3 million for unpaid advance money and royalties.Cash Money originally had 21 days to respond to the suit, but the company asked for an extension in March. According to legal documents, the extension was granted and a response was due by April 11.

Turk alleges Cash Money still has not answered the complaint. His attorney, Patrick Costello, filed the default motion with the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana on April 29. Cash Money’s failure to respond to the lawsuit opens the door for a judge to award Turk the financial damages he is seeking without going to trial.“It’s not like they and their attorney did not know the deadline,” Turk tells AllHipHop.com.

Cash Money Records was founded by Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams. The brothers still operate the imprint.Turk was one of the first artists to sign to the label. The current head of YNT Entertainment released his debut album Young & Thuggin’ on Cash Money. He also contributed to numerous projects by other Cash Money acts like Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and the Hot Boys group.
