Last Sunday (June 5), movie stars and other celebrities gathered in one room for the MTV Movie Awards. While many actors won awards it was a rapper who might have won the most from the ceremony.
Lupe Fiasco performed his latest single Out Of My Head and his first single Show Goes On during the awards and after the performances the rapper saw a huge spike in his album sales. There is no evidence that his performance had anything to do with the spike, but many contribute it to the show.
Lupe’s third studio release, Lasers, went from ranking at #60 to #25 on the albums chart. Lasers also reclaimed the crown for being the #1 Rap album for a second time after debuting at the top of the Rap charts back in March.
The single Show Goes On also enjoyed a jump, going from #18 to #11, while Out of My Head and another Lupe single, Words I Never Said, both moved higher up on the Hip-Hop singles chart.
Lupe’s record label, Atlantic Records, has been very excited in this sudden spike and had this to say about it: "This performance came at the perfect time for Lupe. Just as The Show Goes On hits #1 at radio and we begin the campaign on Out Of My Head with Trey, the Movie Awards comes in with a sledgehammer! Lupe Fiasco is having an incredible summer with his third album, Lasers," said David Saslow, Senior VP of Video Content, Programming and Production for Atlantic Records.
Before this album, the rapper and his label were at odds with one another, but with both sides befitting from sales and popularity, we are sure some of those feelings have been quelled.
